Green Hill Cemetery
Green Hill Cemetery on Lee Street in Danville is an example of the American Rural Cemetery Movement. It was established in 1863. This park-like setting has hundreds of family burial sites that include mausoleums, obelisks, family trees, and Victorian symbols for eternal life, purity and victory. Green Hill is also the location of the Confederate Monument. It is the final resting place for 400 Confederate Civil War veterans. There is a one-mile long Civil War Walking Tour at Green Hill that takes visitors to 15 sites and provides information about the Confederate Monument, prominent Confederate veterans and even the story of buried Confederate treasure. Walking tour brochures may be picked up at the cemetery entrance or at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History at 975 Main Street in Danville. Learn More.OUR LOCATION
