Pittsylvania Historical Society
Pittsylvania Historical Society seeks to preserve, publish and promote our county’s history. The Society meets quarterly and publishes the packet, which contains schedules of local Society events, plus stories and articles related to county history. The webpage pittsylvaniahistoricalsociety.org contains historical articles as well as contact information for membership, and books published by the Society.
Each year on the first sat of October the Society sponsors the Calland’s Festival at the site of the first courthouse and clerk’s office in 1767. This year 2017 is the 250th anniversary of the county’s founding and celebrations/commemorations are going on all year at the 1913 Clerk’s Office in Chatham, at Yates tavern in Gretna, and at other sites around the county.
