History & Heritage

Danville Pittsylvania County, which recently celebrated its 250th anniversary, is a history buff’s dream. From Millionaire’s Row to the Pittsylvania County History Research Center and Library, to over 40 historic markers and the AAF Tank Museum, a wealth of history resides here!

The Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, also known as the “Last Capital of the Confederacy,” is a popular attraction for visitors. Numerous cemeteries are located just a few blocks away.

DPC is also home to High Street Baptist Church, a church Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at weeks prior to giving his “I Have a Dream” speech, and “Bloody Monday,” a notorious civil rights protest.

Want to travel back in time? Reenactments from the Pittsylvania Historical Society and the Danville Historical Society take place at many events throughout the year.
